Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know!
How much does Woodhouse cost?
Woodhouse theatre costs only £50 a month, but we also have an alternate rate of £20 a session, so say you miss a few sessions due to illness, or any other circumstances; we will give you a partial or full refund for the sessions that you missed, because I try to make woodhouse as cheap and fair as possible.
What will be taught?
Woodhouse is a collaborative school, where the students dictate the contents of the lesson, and I teach it. At the end of the session students will take a vote on the topics of the next session based on ones that I have provided, or something unique that they suggest. Each session therefore runs as individual workshops, based on those topics which will then be used in whatever production we end up working towards.
Will there be shows?
YES! Not only will we aim to put on 2 shows a year, but upon request, I will draft up contracts and invoices for any students that require it, so that we can ensure all Woodhouse shows give students a professional credit that can be put towards a spotlight membership & equity card.
Do we cover musical theatre?
Not exactly. Woodhouse theatre is mainly drama focused for both stage, screen, and all other mediums. However, we do have one off sessions with industry experts on singing and dancing, but these will be one off workshops and will not be the direct focus of the academy. There may come a point where one of the productions we stage is a musical, but once again this is an exception and not the rule, as my personal expertise that I aim to pass on is in dramatics.
Do I need acting experience?
No, not at all! What you do need though, is a dedication to the craft and an eagerness to learn. Woodhouse aims to lean just as close to the education side of the industry as much as the practical side, so we don't have the room, nor the time for students that are there for a bit of fun and just to mess about for a few hours. Woodhouse exists to nurture and train the future generation of actors and performers and give them all the tools they need to turn their passion for acting into a viable career.
Do I need to bring anything?
Only the things that you think you will need. There is no dress code at Woodhouse, but we recommend something flexible that you'll be able to move around in, and maybe a bottle of water and a snack to enjoy during break. I would also personally recommend maybe bringing a notebook to make notes from each session to make sure what you are taught stays with you, but again this isn't a necessity.
What makes Woodhouse unique?
Woodhouse's appeal comes from the professional level training that we give to our young actors. I take current industry workshops used in universities, West End performances, and techniques used by the greatest actors, and bring them down to the level of my students. Giving them the training and industry insight that you can only find in further education, and give it to students years before they've even left high school. There is no drama school like Woodhouse, because the things taught and opportunities given enhance the students to be the best of the best.
